Lana Del Rey has finally explained why she was filmed working at a Waffle House in Florence, Alabama, in July 2023. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the singer said that she was in town hanging out with her siblings and had been to the restaurant a few times. On their latest visit, the staff offered her a name tag and encouraged her to help out with customer orders.
"We were on our third hour, and the servers asked, 'Do you guys want shirts?'" Del Rey said. "Hell yeah! We were thrilled."
Del Rey said that she ended up serving one of the restaurant's regulars, who orders a Coke and an empty cup for dip every day.
"I brought him a Coke. No ice. And an empty cup," she said. "For dip."
After footage of Del Rey working at Waffle House went viral on social media, many fans were convinced that she was moonlighting as a waitress. But the singer said that it was just a fun way to show her appreciation for the restaurant and its staff.
"I love Waffle House," she said. "It's a Southern institution."
